Alibaba and You: How to get started

I received a request on a previous comment in regards to questions about purchasing from Alibaba. I signed up, and the first thing I noticed was that you had to have a business. This is actually not a huge deal, as registering a business, in many places, can be done online. I did my registration through Google, and while I'm sure I have MUCH to learn in that regard, the site allowed me to use my Google listed business.

I then attempted to find the basic "buy it now" button, but instead you have to contact the supplier. They provide a spot for you to message each manufacturer - So, if you choose to go this route it ends up being a direct conversation with another company. Don't let that put you off, as those companies have far more experience with their products, shipping costs / unit (It has options for bags, boxes, etc.) and methods of shipping / payment.

When everyone else is going to the store, you are bypassing the middle man - for the savings offered by this process, I believe the act of setting up a business online is well worth the time investment. That being said, look into what it takes to set up a business in your area, and decide for yourself if it's worth it.
