Google Opinion Rewards: Real or Scam?

When I saw that Google had it's own survey app I knew I had to try it right away. I use so many of Google's services for my website, and I like their approach to things - Cut the crap, get it going. I downloaded the app from the Play Store.

They tout the service as a way to receive short surveys that can be completed in a shopping line or on the bus. The app is simple, no ads so far; there really isn't a whole lot going on here. On log in you verify your account and then you are asked if Google can turn on and look at your tracking services. They say it's so that they can offer you surveys on where you have been, which is fine, but I don't leave it on because it runs a phone battery down fast.

You are given a practice survey, and from there you are on your own. I didn't have any real surveys up, which may be common or uncommon, I'll have to do an update in a few days. You can receive pay in either PayPal or Google Play Store credits, which is nice for those who play games that have in app-purchases like War Robots.

Otherwise, there really isn't much at all to this app. The only drop down menu has very few options: My tasks, reward history, settings, and help. So ease of use is ridiculously simple. There is a "share it with your friends" feature, but it's a straight forward contacts based sharing option; no referral system as of now.

Overall I like the look and feel of the app, but I'll have to wait to see what the rewards are like, and how often surveys are available. Until then give it a try yourself!

Update:

Minutes after posting this blog entry I received my first survey. It was a single question, and the payout was $0.10 which is a far higher payout / question than any of the other survey sites. Time will tell how often the surveys roll in.
