Time to mow grass

It happens every year around this time. The grass starts getting tall in some spots of the yard, and if you don't mow it now it'll choke your mower in a week. Most people hate the first mow of the year; trying to start the mower, the grass still isn't properly dry at 4 pm, it's still too cool. This is the time of year where you can make a ton of money.

Before you can mow you have to clean up yard debris. Everyone I know hates doing this, so if you don't want to mow for money then why not rake? Carry some bags and a rake, knock on the door and stand back a respectful distance. Ask if your neighbors want their back yards cleaned up. Many elderly people want to take pride in their lawns, but don't have the ability to get down and clean up limbs and leaves.

I had a previous post about making a lawn service; start small and do it all yourself. If you charge 20-30 dollars per yard (depending on your area) then doing even just one yard a day will net you $100-$150 a week. Now imagine if you were to push yourself. Consider mowing yards a form of exercise and you're knocking out two birds with one stone.

Have bored kids at home? Cut them in on the money in exchange for raking up while you mow. In this time of social distancing there are going to be more people than ever who want someone else to do things for them. Mowing a yard can turn into odd-jobs all summer if you leave a business card. Most importantly you just have to get out there and let it be known that you are mowing/cleaning yards. Use all the tools at your disposal including Facebook Marketplace.

Just be careful - you may find it so easy to make money this way that you don't want to go back to your 9-5 after the pandemic passes. You have been warned.
