What a load of garbage!

No, seriously. If the dump's scales are semi-accurate then we've pulled out over 3,000 pounds of lath and plaster, a cast iron tub, and old unusable lumber. We pretty much worked all weekend, shopped and packed home appliances, a new tub, and a whole mess of other stuff. I've stuffed in insulation, changed the AC filter a half dozen times, and I can honestly say that my back hurts and I'm tired.

I did wake up at 5 am and go get a little bit of fishing in. I was reading about Tenkara, or the art of Japanese micro-fishing. They use these telescopic fishing rods with about 12 feet of line and attempt to pull ultra tiny fish from mountain streams and small bodies of water. I decided to give it a try.

I bought a new 4 1/2 foot ultralight rod with a midget spinning reel, put on some 6 pound test with some 2 pound mono tippet, and tied on the tiniest Panther Martin inline spinner I could find. I was catching these ridiculously tiny bluegill, having a blast, and my bait got smashed by what felt like a monster bass. The rod nearly doubled over, and even at it's highest drag setting the fish was still taking a little line.

I grabbed hold of the six pound with my hand and pulled in what must have been a half pound bluegill. The fight wasn't difficult, but it's the most fun I've had fishing in a while. I caught probably two dozen more little ones before I headed back home to start working on the house. I plan to go again sometime during the week after work for an hour or two, and I've even found a list of all known fish species in Kentucky, and I had the crazy idea that I'd like to try and catch them all.

Most are pretty common looking fish; a lot of greens and silvers. Bluegill and Pumpkinseeds can have some pretty vivid colors, but what caught my eye almost immediately was the Daces and Darters. They look like tiny explosions of color, and while small I think I'd really enjoy hiking back into the mountains in Eastern Kentucky and trying to catch one from a cool stream.

Another work week begins, another week of the Coronavirus, and another week where many people are unsure of where their next paycheck is coming from. If you need some extra cash, and are sitting at home anyway, make sure to check out PrizeRebel or instaGC and start taking those surveys!
