Writing an eBook: 2 days in

Well, it's going great. 2 days into the project and I have just over 10,000 words written. If I stick to my original plan of 50,000 words I should be done sometime next week. Then I get to experience the joy of proof reading, and probably investing in some sort of grammar software. After a bunch of revisions so far, I'm happy with the work I've produced up to this point.

One thing I have noticed is how easy it is to get so caught up in the act of writing that you don't go back and re-read the line and paragraph to make sure you aren't getting off om a tangent. If you want a surprise to be in your book, then just writing towards that twist isn't good enough. You need to constantly reread your work to make sure you aren't giving away too much of the wrong kind of details that might ruin what could have been an amazing moment, but ends up with people saying "Yeah, I saw that coming from page 1".

Another thing is that fiction books just aren't for everyone. I have had close to 6 false-starts on fiction books, because honestly my idea just wasn't that good. I didn't realize it was garbage until about 2 pages in, when suddenly I say to myself, "Just stop, this is le' suck."

Everyone lives life in a slightly different manner, and everyone has a unique set of experiences that happen to them that some other people might get really interested in reading. If you've ever been stuck on an island with your only company being a sandal, yes you should have already written that story. However, even what you might consider to be mundane is probably interesting to more people than you realize.

If you're unsure of what to write about, or how to write it, there are plenty of - you guessed it - eBooks on Amazon that might give you the helping hand you need to break into book writing. One great example can be found here.
