You bought WHAT with your stimulus check???

Some people were extremely lucky and came out ahead because of the combination of unemployment benefit boosts and the stimulus check, and when most people have extra money they will spend it; usually on the stupidest things they can find. I go into people's houses on a daily basis, and in the last couple weeks I have seen some real winners for the "Why did you buy that?" award.

First off, just because you have a back yard and you have enough money to buy it doesn't mean you should buy a pool. Please understand that a $400 pool isn't going to last long when it comes to your 5 hyperactive children and 3 "emotional support" dogs.

A pool is a big commitment, but your $400 pool won't make it long enough for you to worry about that. Above ground pools need to be put onto a level surface that has been topped with sand to act as padding for the liner. You can't just put a tarp down on a slope and expect the pool to last. Besides the money you'll need to spend on chemicals, winterizing, and the flood damage it will cause when it collapses and fills your basement with water, there are safety considerations as well. Every situation is different, but most land lords won't let you put up a pool for insurance reasons.

Aside from pools I've seen a fair few new vehicles, which is amazing; use that money to get reliable transportation, by all means. The only problem is the whole "Can you afford it after your unemployment checks stop coming" thing.

No matter what you spend your money on I hope that you thought it through and made the best decision you could for you and your family. None of us knows what the future is going to hold, but I can guarantee there are gonna be some tow trucks and flooded basements in the near future.
